Critical Performance Requirements

Flame Retardancy (UL 94)

All mains-connected smart home devices require UL 94 flame retardant plastic:

Available FR materials: ABS V-0, PC V-0, PC/ABS V-0, PP V-0, PA66 V-0

Cosmetic Surface Quality

Consumer smart home products are display items — cosmetic defects are unacceptable. JBRplas achieves Class A surface quality on all visible enclosure faces:

• Gloss levels from ultra-matte (VDI 45) to high-gloss (SPI B1)
• Colour consistency across multi-cavity tools (ΔE < 1.0 batch to batch)
• Pantone and RAL colour matching in-resin or via spray painting
• In-mould grain textures for branded surface aesthetics
• Parting line and gate witness marks located on non-visible surfaces

Wireless Signal Transparency

Smart home devices communicate via Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, or Bluetooth. Enclosure material selection affects wireless performance:

• ABS and PC — good RF transparency, preferred for devices with internal antennas
• Glass-filled grades — can attenuate RF; consult our engineers before specifying GF materials for RF-sensitive enclosures
• Metal inserts — antenna window design required if metal inserts are near antenna locations

Dimensional Precision for PCB Assembly

Smart home enclosures must interface precisely with PCBs, connectors, and mechanical fasteners:

• PCB mounting boss location: ±0.05mm
• Port cutouts (USB-C, LAN, power): ±0.10mm
• Snap-fit engagement: per design specification, typically 0.3–0.6mm interference
• Button travel and actuation force: agreed at DFM stage
