Branded Toys

Plastic injection molding for branded toys and children's products — EN71, ASTM F963, CPSC compliant. Vibrant colours, safe materials, high-volume production from Shenzhen.

Branded Toy Injection Molding

Branded toys require a combination of capabilities that few manufacturers master simultaneously: vibrant, accurate colour reproduction; strict compliance with toy safety regulations across multiple markets; mechanical durability to survive the demands of children; and the production economics to support competitive retail price points.

JBRplas manufactures plastic components for branded toy programs — from licensed character merchandise and construction toys to electronic learning devices and ride-on vehicles. Our DFM process specifically addresses toy safety standards at the design stage, before tooling begins.

Toy Safety Compliance

Toy safety compliance is non-negotiable. JBRplas designs and produces toy components with the following regulatory frameworks in mind from the earliest DFM stage.

Key Standards by Market

MarketStandardKey Requirements
European UnionEN 71 Parts 1–3Mechanical safety, flammability, chemical migration
United StatesASTM F963Mechanical, flammability, chemical requirements
USA (federal)CPSC / CPSIALead, phthalates, third-party testing
ChinaGB 6675Aligned with EN 71, locally enforced
AustraliaAS/NZS 8124Equivalent to EN 71

Material Compliance

All materials used for toy components at JBRplas are selected and verified for toy regulatory compliance:

Chemical compliance:

  • REACH SVHC (substances of very high concern) — compliant declaration per material
  • Phthalate-free — no DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, DNOP per CPSIA
  • Lead-free — pigments and base resins meeting EN 71-3 and CPSIA limits
  • BPA-free — for infant and young child products

Commonly used compliant base resins:

Mechanical Safety Design

EN 71 Part 1 and ASTM F963 define mechanical safety requirements that directly influence part design. JBRplas’s DFM review addresses these requirements:

Sharp edges and points: We review all part geometry for edges that would fail the EN 71 sharp edge test. Internal radii, parting line quality, and gate witness marks are all evaluated — and tooling is designed to produce parts that meet the requirements without post-mold deflashing.

Small parts: For toys intended for children under 3 years, all components must be too large to fit entirely in a small parts cylinder (ASTM F963 / EN 71). We evaluate component dimensions at the DFM stage and flag any parts that approach the limit.

Structural integrity and torque testing: Snap-fit connections, hinges, and joints must withstand the pull, twist, and drop forces defined in the standards. We design engagement geometry with these forces in mind, and can arrange third-party mechanical testing coordination.

Colour Accuracy for Licensed Brands

Licensed toy programs typically require precise colour matching to brand standards. JBRplas achieves colour accuracy through:

  • In-resin colour matching — masterbatch formulated to ΔE < 1.5 against Pantone or RAL standard
  • Colour approval sample — physical colour chip approved by licensor before production release
  • Batch-to-batch consistency — spectrophotometer measurement logged per production batch
  • Multi-cavity colour consistency — same colour across all cavities verified at first article

For licensed programs (Disney, LEGO-compatible systems, sports leagues, etc.), we operate under strict NDA and do not reference or display licensed product work in our marketing materials.

Production Volumes and Lead Times

Branded toy programs frequently involve seasonal production peaks around Q3–Q4. JBRplas plans capacity for toy programs specifically:

PhaseTypical Timeline
DFM review3 business days from 3D file receipt
T1 samples20–28 business days from design approval
Colour approval5–7 business days (masterbatch development)
Production ramp10–15 business days from sample approval
Peak volume deliveryAugust–September for Q4 retail season

We recommend committing tooling orders by April for Q4 retail season delivery with comfortable buffer for T2 trials and colour approval cycles.
